Around this time of the year you start to see the traditional pumpkins appearing on peoples’ porches, the witches slammed into the trees, and the yard displays of ghosts and gobblins. But the thing that raised the hair on the back of my neck is the Cabernet Sauvignon by Vampire Vineyards.

I first saw it last year at the wine store and decided to give it a try. I was very surprised that it had such a full body and great taste for a reasonably price wine. I went back the next week to buy some more, but they were all sold out and was told they weren’t getting any more in.  This year, I wasn’t so foolish. I bought three bottles of the Cabernet.

I think it has mellowed since last year. It’s a 2008 vintage and seems a little smoother than I remember it. It still has a very strong body with hints of chocolate and cherries. It’s ideal for grilled steaks and chops or rich red pasta dishes.

It also comes in Merlot, Pinot Noir, Pinot Grigio, White Zinfandel, Zinfandel, Syrah, Chardonnay and Merlot Rose. But the Cabernet is still my favorite.

Don’t be afraid to give it a try. It won’t bite.
