I have driven past Point Brugge Cafe for almost two years and always wanted to stop. The place seemed very original and interesting.

This past Friday, I made it a point to go there for dinner and I was not disappointed.

The first thing I liked about the place was that “reservations were NOT accepted” according to their website. I liked this because I knew I had just as much of a chance at getting a table just as everyone else did.

We arrived about 8:00 p.m. and were told there would be a 20 minute wait. It was a very friendly atmosphere with people sitting outside drinking wine and relaxing… just my kind of place. Twenty minutes gave us just enough time to walk around the area and look at the local houses and gardens. I even made friends with a rather timid cat on the street.

Once we had out table by the window in the front of the restaurant, I saw that almost everyone was ordering the moules or mussels. No problem there. Mussels are one of my favorite foods.  But, I choose to start off my dinner with the cheese board, a sampling of different and unique cheeses and olives. Very nice.  The Belgian beer I ordered also went nicely with it. My other half had tofu with spinach and also said it was very tasty.

On to the main course… I had the small bowl with the curry sauce. It was excellent. The curry broth was so good, that I gave up Atkins for the moment and sopped up all of it with all of the bread that they would give me. I think I could have been easily persuaded to get the large bowl with no problems. The tomato sauce was also very good I was told.

At this point, the manager asked us if we would mind if they opened the full wall windows, and I was more than happy to oblige. I had actually been hoping that they would open them actually. Having read my mind and cooled my body, Point Brugge deserved a chance at desert. I had the flourless chocolate cake. Which was very rich and creamy.

All in all, it was a great experience. The service was great and the food, outstanding. I think it would be a great place to go anytime, but I am really looking forward to the winter months were you can sit and watch the snow come down as you did into a large, hot bowl of moules.
